Evil Dead Remake Gets NC-17

The first go-around of the Evil Dead remake through the MPAA ratings board resulted in it getting an NC-17, so it's back to the editing room, in search of a more commercial R. What does this mean? First, it means that I'll be getting the NC-17 version when it comes out on Blu-Ray. Second, it shows once again how dumb the ratings system is. This is a movie. It's not real. There are no Deadites, no one is getting cut apart, it's all latex and CGI. Why should there being anything that results in a compromise of the vision of the artistic team, in order to satisfy an arbitrary decision by a handful of people? In the age of home video, the uncut version will probably be readily available, so it's not like the "community" is being "protected" from haivng hteir delicate sensibilities offended. Here's an idea: let theater owners decide what they want to show and movie goers decide what they want to see. And leave the vision of the filmmakers alone. On a side note, the documentary "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" is a must see for anyone interested in just how the MPAA review and rating system works. Director Kirby Dick demonstrates just how random and oppressive it is. Source: ComicBookMovie.com
